“Today we made the first trip and in the following months the entire testing phase will take place. Here they committed to me that it will be ready in the first quarter of 2026, ready for use. We want people to be able to get on at Buenavista for Easter, get to AIFA, take their plane to different places in the country or abroad,” said the president.
He indicated that the construction is 92% complete with the civil works already completed, however, he commented that there is still the construction of three pedestrian bridges, signage and tests prior to commissioning.
Sheinbaum made the first tour of this work from the Lechería station to the AIFA, together with the governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez, and the secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina.
The Lechería-AIFA Suburbano will connect with the airport in a journey of approximately 23 minutes, along 23.7 kilometers in which there are six intermediate stations and an airport terminal. Getting there from Buenavista (with the connection with the Buenavista-Cuautitlán Suburban Train) will be possible in about 43 minutes.
This seeks to facilitate the arrival of passengers to AIFA, a work that was one of the main projects of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) after his decision to cancel the construction of the Texcoco International Airport, a project started during the mandate of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018).
The new suburban train route is estimated to have an average initial demand of 82,621 passengers per day.
