“My opinion is that a legislator should not have contracts with the government, that is my opinion, and we must look to see if we can legislate around it,” said the president.
“It can be taken as a conflict of interest, they can be businessmen, businesswomen, and have contracts with private parties, but I do not believe that a legislator should have contracts with the government,” he added during his morning conference on October 16.
The president proposed this rule when questioned about the local PT deputy, Antonio Flores, who in addition to riding around in a Lamborghini, is a coal businessman and has been accused of receiving million-dollar contracts from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
“I even raised it for some cases, at the time, of Morena, that there were businessmen who and I said: well, let’s see, they separate themselves from their company to avoid any conflict of interest,” added Sheinbaum, although without revealing specific cases. .
“Tony” Flores was caught last weekend driving a Lamborghini Huracán that has a value of more than six million pesos. Aboard the luxury vehicle, the legislator toured the streets of the Municipality of Múzquiz, north of Coahuila.
Regarding this case, which captured national attention, the president stressed that “we must always lead by example” and see how the matter is legislated because, the Morenista emphasized, it is not correct.
As a result of the criticism, the legislator, who shares songs composed in his honor on his social networks, as well as his various vehicles such as 4×4 trucks, said that he has always conducted himself honestly and within the margins of the law.
He stated that he does not participate in any company that has contracts with the public sector and that all his assets, including the Lamborghini, are the product of his work as a businessman in fields such as livestock farming and mining.
“For decades I have worked honestly and within the framework of the law, which includes activities in agriculture, livestock, transportation, services, mining, gas stations, construction and real estate, among others. I do not participate in any company that has contracts with the public sector. All my assets, including the vehicle in question, are the result of that business effort,” he published in a statement through Instagram.
Tania Flores, sister of “Tony” and Mayor of Múzquiz, uploaded a photograph to her social networks with the questioned legislator, whom she referred to as “the people’s deputy.” In another publication, the politician and businesswoman wrote: “Los Flores, loved by thousands, hated by a few.”

Sheinbaum recalled that a reform initiative is currently in the Chamber of Deputies so that no public servant can have a salary higher than that of the person in the Presidency.
“It cannot be that public servants have salaries that exceed the salary of the president, which was reduced by half since the term of president (Andrés Manuel) López Obrador,” he stated.
