The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported last week that Mexican authorities notified it about the detection of screwworm in a cow that was at a checkpoint near the southern border with Guatemala.
“We hope it will be resolved this week, it is part of the protocol that is in place,” said the president in her usual morning press conference.
“The Department of Agriculture (of the United States) put in place a precautionary measure, and they are in permanent communication with the Secretary (of Agriculture of Mexico) Julio Berdegué,” he added.
After the case was detected, the USDA also asked producers in the area where the case was detected to monitor their livestock and domestic animals, as well as to immediately report new possible cases.
