The goal, according to data from the Women’s Secretariat, is to deploy more than 800 “companions” lawyers throughout the country.
In the cloister of Sor Juana, the president explained that one of her goals as the first woman to reach the presidency is to eradicate violence against Mexicans.
“What we want to eradicate is violence against women, which has to do with a deep cultural change, which means the recognition of women as people and in all equalities, it also has to do with defending women who live in violence,” he said.
“That is why the ‘women’s lawyers’ is so important for a woman to never feel alone, that she knows that there is a government that is with her, that there are women lawyers who are with them.”
Eradicating violence against women is still a slope in Mexico. According to official figures, 10 women are killed in Mexico per day.

The president explained that it seeks that Mexicans live free of violence and that their rights are respected and exercised.
“On this second floor of the fourth transformation we say strong and clear: ‘Women have rights’. That time was left behind those phrases that said: ‘Calladita you look prettier.’ Women see each other prettier when we talk, we say what we think and participate. Time was left behind when we were told you weak sex,” he added.
