Fayad commented that during the meeting the president expressed her intention for there to be an understanding with the Trump government.
“The president has a very clear idea: there will be understanding and agreements on a level of equality, always defending our dignity and sovereignty. There may be differences, as in any political or social relationship, but the intention is always to advance for the benefit of Mexico,” he highlighted.
In this meeting, the president also asked diplomats to be prepared for any situation.
“We were made to see the importance of being ready, of anticipating any situation, but also of working with the same willingness to understand that characterized the relationship with President López Obrador,” said the former governor.
The meeting
After 12:00 p.m., dozens of representatives of the diplomatic corps, including the Ambassador to Spain, Quirino Ordaz, arrived at the official residence and entered on foot along Moneda Street.
Upon arrival, Esteban Moctezuma, Mexican ambassador to the United States, stated that one of the purposes of the meeting is to listen to President Claudia Sheinbaum’s instructions on foreign policy.
“Well, we come here to a meeting with Mrs. President Sheinbaum. We are very happy to be able to hear from her her instructions for what is to come and obviously to fulfill our migrant brothers, so that they know that they are not alone,” he stated.
The president of Mexico announced this morning that at the meeting she will ask diplomats to reinforce support for Mexicans living in other nations.
“We are going to talk about the historical moment that Mexico is experiencing, about the Transformation, about the moral authority that Mexico has today and what we represent for our country and for the entire world, which is a project that is giving results; a Transformation project that it is giving results, that it gave results with President López Obrador and that we are giving results,” he expressed.
“And, particularly for the consuls, the entire strategy of support for our migrant brothers and sisters and what we ask for the most, which is the essence of our project, which is humanism,” he said in his morning conference.
