The President Claudia Sheinbaum reported this Monday that as part of the new Comprehensive Plan of the National Baccalaureate System of the New Mexican Schoolthe creation of 200,000 new places in high schools is proposed, with 40,000 spaces in 2025.
“How are we going to do it? with new campuses, with expansion of the current campuses and giving in secondary schools that only have a morning shift, the afternoon shift for high schools, are three ways to expand enrollment for upper secondary education, this year there are 40,000 new spaces that are added to what already exists and we are going to reach up to 200,000 new places for high schools in the country, mainly where there are no high schools and technological high schools,” he explained.
The above, added the president, to strengthen our educational system and above all so that young people are in school, “they like school, they want school, they are part of this system and instead of being in the street, because they are 15 to 18 years old, instead of being on the streets they are studying, which is what we all want.”
In this sense, he recalled that there are currently 32 higher education systems in the country, so one of the objectives is to unify them into two systems, the General National Baccalaureate and the General Technological Baccalaureateto generate only two types of certificates: one general and another validated by the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and by the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM), and thus upper secondary education can be integrated with primary and secondary, but also with higher education.

“This is a very important effort for all young people, so that everyone knows that regardless of the school where they go, they are validated, recognized at the national level by a single certificate,” he said during his morning conference.
