Sheinbaum announces full fuel traceability by the end of October

The president Claudia Sheinbaum reported this Thursday that his government is working on a new digital traceability system to combat the so-called tax huachicoland that, at the end of this month, the federal government will have a unified fuel traceability system, with which it will be possible to know in real time what amount of gasoline and diesel is imported, who transports it, where it is stored and at what stations it is sold.

During his morning conference, he explained that there is an inter-institutional group made up of the Secretary of Energy, Tax authorities, Pemex, Customs, ASEA, Profecothe Security Secretariat and the Digital Transformation Agencywith the purpose of consolidating a single source of information that allows the flow of hydrocarbons in the country to be identified in real time.

“We are putting together all the databases in such a way that there is a single source of information in the federal government on how much fuel is imported, produced and sold. This will allow us to know, precisely, if more is sold than what is produced or imported, and then detect contraband,” he explained from the National Palace.

Sheinbaum Pardo stressed that the new legal framework derived from the constitutional reform in energy matters now allows this traceability to be established, which did not exist in previous administrations.

Likewise, he explained that Each truck that transports fuel must have an authorized QR code by the Ministry of Energy, specifying the origin and destination of the product, as part of the controls that will be implemented.

Regarding the figure of 600,000 million pesos estimated by the Fiscal Attorney of the Federation as damage due to tax huachicolthe president clarified that there is still no official data from the Ministry of Finance, since the integration of the database must first be completed.

“Until all the information is squared away, we would not be able to say how much it is estimated. The attorney’s statement was based on a figure mentioned by a deputy,” he said.

However, he confirmed that there are ongoing lawsuits for a cumulative amount of 16,000 million pesos, related to specific cases of fuel smuggling that are already in court.

“They are files made up of different areas of the government, the Attorney General’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office. They are the historical balance of several cases already reported,” he explained.

Sheinbaum recalled that, after the detection of a ship irregular in Tamaulipas with fuel, stricter protocols were implemented in maritime customs to review petitions and verify the contents of each vessel with the support of laboratories.
