“We agreed to strengthen the Mexico and Canada Commercial Treaty, which has brought the three countries of North America a lot of prosperity. This treaty has not only increased trade and investment opportunities, but has generated better paid jobs, more solid supply chains and more competitive markets,” he said.
This Thursday, President Sheinbaum received Carney, with whom she spoke about the commercial treaty with the United States, as well as the relationship between Mexico and Canada. The meeting occurs in the prelude to the reviews for the review of the T-MEC, scheduled for 2026.
Accompanied by Mark Carney, Sheinbaum said that the T-MEC made North America the most competitive region.
“We are the most important region in economic terms in the world. The T-MEC is proof that when we work together, Canada and the United States we can create prosperity, to successfully face global challenges and position ourselves as one of the most dynamic regions in the world,” he said.
Upon taking the floor, the Prime Minister of Canada agreed that, thanks to the T-MEC, North America and today the most competitive region in the world and the one that everyone envies commercially speaking.
“We are both committed to our strategic alliance with the United States and therefore we want to use the review of the T-MEC to use this treaty more effectively. Canada and Mexico complement each other in their strengths and remain united strongly in a time of crisis, we do our best to ally,” he said.

Carney stressed that the United States, Mexico and Canada are stronger if they are united.
“Today we have signed an action plan that will complement the review of the T-MEC and I have all the confidence and I think it also has the president, that we can find adjustments that can be made to reinforce the competition and competitiveness of this region,” he said.
Regarding the possibility that President Donald Trump seeks to divide Mexico and Canada, both leaders expressed their intention to stay together and assured that the strength of the treaty is unity.
“The T-MEC is the strength of the whole of the three countries, that is what North America is and contributes to North America being the envy of the whole world commercially speaking. We are committed to working with both partners. We will work together to get to have an improved T-MEC,” said Carney.
