The NGO Una Ventana a la Libertad reported, this Saturday, November 2, that a teenager who was detained due to the protests that occurred on July 29, was transferred to the emergency room of the Alí Romero clinic in Barcelona, Anzoátegui state, for having ingested a liter of chlorine.
According to the information issued by the NGO, this is the second time that the 17-year-old girl has made an attempt on her life. The relatives asked that the young woman receive psychological help, but they have had no response from the authorities.
A person close to the young woman’s family, who asked to reserve her identity, said that the teenager suffers from severe depression and has shown behavior that puts her life at risk, “she does not want to continue being unjustly detained.”
They also point out that the young woman has not received adequate counseling and psychological care.
The teenager’s arrest occurred when she was leaving a healthcare center, where she had been nebulized for respiratory failure. She is accused, along with three other teenagers, of allegedly having committed terrorism, inciting hatred and association to commit a crime.
On September 27, they were brought to trial electronically at the Barcelona Courthouse and their preventive detention was ratified.
The young woman, who had just graduated from high school and had university plans, is now detained in a cell of the Bolivarian National Police.
“She has not committed any crime and was not participating in any of the protests that were taking place in the entity. We demand her immediate release and hold police officials and the national government responsible for what may happen to her and all those detained in the same condition,” said another acquaintance of the young woman.
