The 14-year-old teenager, victim of a shark attack, this Sunday morning (5), remains hospitalized at Hospital da Restauração, in Recife.
According to the press office of the hospital, the health of the young man is stable and there is no forecast for hospital discharge.
This Monday morning (6), the young man was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and is now in the ward, where he remains under the care of a multidisciplinary team.
During the surgical procedure, still on Sunday, the teenager had his lower right limb amputated, due to the severity of the injuries. He and his family are being monitored by the hospital’s Social Work and Psychology teams.
The attack
The teenager was attacked by a shark at Praia de Piedade, near Igrejinha, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in Greater Recife.
The site, on the south coast of Pernambuco, is prohibited for swimming in the sea, as determined by the Shark Incident Monitoring Committee (Cemit), an agency of the Pernambuco Social Defense Secretariat, established in 2004.
The victim was rescued by helicopter and taken to Hospital da Restauração, where he underwent leg amputation surgery.
With this case, the number of incidents with sharks in the state since 1992 rose to 76, considering the mainland Pernambuco beaches and Fernando de Noronha.
The last record was on 20 Feb.at Praia dos Milagres, in Olinda, metropolitan region of Recife.
