The growth of internal debt is aligned with the State’s public debt management strategy; It is a debt primarily in bonds
The share of the country’s internal public debt has been growing in recent years and for that reason interest payments already represent 35% of the total debt service.
From January 1 to October 18 this year, the Government paid RDS72,807.9 million in interest on the domestic debt, representing about 1% of the gross domestic product (GDP).
The payment of interest on the external debt was RD$131,772.1 million, for which the Government accrued RD$205,480.8 million in interest on the public debt, 2.8% of GDP.
The internal debt of the non-financial public sector (SPNF) was US$14,330.9 million in 2021, US$15,496.9 million in 2002, RD$15,974.7 million in 2023 and US$16,805.8 million in August 2024.
The growth of internal debt is aligned with the State’s public debt management strategy that seeks to reduce the proportion of debt in foreign currency, deepen the stock market and diversify financing sources.
Payment of interest and commissions on the debt amounted to RD$230,441 million out of a budgeted total of RD$294,634 million.
This year’s budget includes RD$263,892.1 million in the payment of interest on the public debt.
The Government’s fiscal deficit amounted to RD$114,531.2 million, which represents 1.5% of GDP.
This deficit, whose execution was 48.9%, is the product of RD$937,339.6 million in income and RD$1,060,022.8 million in expenses.
The primary result, which is when the payment of debt interest is discounted, was RD$90,949.6 million, 1.2% of GDP.
In capital expenditures, the Government has accrued RD$127,537.1 million out of a total of RD$206,930.7 million, which represents 1.6% of GDP. The execution of constructions in progress amounted to RD$39,803.7 million.
According to the weekly budget execution report of the General Budget Directorate, the Executive Branch has executed RD$1,053,521.2 million.
The largest amount corresponds to the Ministry of Education, with RD$218,784.9 million. It is followed by the Ministry of Public Health (RD$115,688.4 million) and the Presidency of the Republic (97,042.2 million).
In remunerations, the Government has paid RD$209,190.6 million, in bonuses RD$14,972.5 million.
