¨We are slaves of the owners of the bowling alleys¨ says Loren Silva from Rivera where she practiced sex work and thanks to the solidarity of O.TRA.S (an organization affiliated with the Pit-Cnt) and her family she managed to leave. He now has a small food store that supports his family with two minors, 4 and 12 years old, but he continues the fight alongside his companions.
“We have to put an end to pimps” he claims as a state policy. “Supposedly we entered as free, but the owner keeps 50% to 70%” in addition to the fact that they must bear the cost of the piece.
Loren denounces that sometimes they withhold the documentation that allows them to work legally without the risk of being detained by the police. She considers that the ideal is sex work without whiskey bars or bowling alleys, independently, associating between two or three colleagues in a department.
They are part of the claims that O.TRA.S (Organization of Sex Workers) of Uruguay tries to sensitize the political spectrum to modify the law 17,515 of the year 2002 promulgated in the presidency of Jorge Batlle.
Johanna, who provides services autonomously on the streets of Montevideo, mentions the change in the minimum age of exercise to 19 and not 18 years as it is now. They understand that a little more maturity is necessary to face this work.
¨We are independent, what we do is for us, we have no owner to whom we are accountable¨
