The mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosséparticipated in the Montevideo departmental convention of the Socialist Partyand in his speech in front of the participants marked the differences between the ruling party and the opposition of the Municipality of Montevideo. The comparisons earned him a response from Laura Raffo, president of the Department of the National Party in Montevideo, who stated that the mayor “promotes the crack”.
“We are taking care of democracy when they corner us and we continue working because our commitment is with the people. We are taking care of democracy, they vote for impeachment,” Cosse affirmed, regarding the request of the bench of mayors of the National Party and the Colorado Party -opposition in the department-.
“We are taking care of democracy when, out of 2,159 requests for a report, we answered 2,136we do not answer the others because they correspond to other organizations,” added the mayor.
Cosse made several references to “us”in reference to the Municipality of Montevideo, and “they” in reference to the departmental opposition. “We take care of the planet and we propose a Comprehensive Environmental Sanitation project. They do not vote for the IDB loan”he indicated.
“We are closer, they move away from the State”Cosse added.
Through his Twitter, Raffo indicated that “always talking about ‘us’ and ‘them'” as Cosse did in his speech “promotes the crack”. “Cosse’s style is not the kind of politics we want for Uruguay”criticized the president of the White Departmental.
“There are two ways to govern: ours and the other”emphasized the Montevideo mayor, who believes that the way of governing practiced by the capital city government prioritizes “caring for people, caring for the planet and caring for democracy.”
