Severo Sousa: ‘It is time for us to make long-term investments, regardless of the fact that the government only lasts 5 years’

In recent days, the streets of the province of Colón have been submerged under water, as a result of the floods due to the heavy rains that are recorded during this month of October, I consider one of the months with the highest rainfall of the rainy season of the year. In Panama.

In that sense, various business associations have shown their concern about the consequences of these downpours. Such is the case of the businessman and president of the Association of Users of the Colon Free Zone, Severo Sousa, who spoke on the matter this Thursday morning, October 20, on Radio Panama.

«The issue of flooding is not new nor is it that the past administration solved it, it got worse perhaps, but there have been floods since I can remember. The issue of garbage is not new either », he expressed.

He said that 55% of the pumps were not working, because many were installed in the previous administration and due to budgetary issues, some were not delivered.

He pointed out that, by the Free Zone, adaptations are being made to request externally the orders for the spare parts and maintenance of said pumps, as well as the MOP obtained other provisional pumps that helped significantly.

He argued that all preventive maintenance is expensive because it is money that seems to be investing in something that is not needed; however, any maintenance that is done when things are already more damaged is much more expensive.
