The Florida State University (FSU) issued an emergency alert on Thursday to the presence of an active shooter on its main campus, located in Tallahassee. According to the official statement, the incident originated in the immediate vicinity of Student Union, where police units were deployed that are currently clearing the facilities.

At 12:02 p. m. Of April 17, 2025, the University reported through the FSU Alert system that an active shooter report had been received. The university community was requested to seek immediate refuge, get away from doors and windows, and remain in place to new order.
Shortly after, at 12:40 p. m., It was confirmed that the police had responded to the incident and that classes, university events and sports activities scheduled for the day had been canceled. Likewise, those who will not find themselves in the main campus were asked to avoid addressing the facilities until new notice.
The University reiterated that all people must remain in their place as a protection while the agents continue to inspect the buildings. It was reported that the officers will use the keyword “seminole” to indicate that it is safe to open the door.
