Several family members of 11J protester Andy García arrested in Santa Clara

The family of Andy García Lorenzo, one of those prosecuted for demonstrating on 11J in Santa Clara, continues to be under siege by the regime, a few days after the anniversary of the historic protests.

This Tuesday, Andy’s sister, Roxana García and her husband, Jonatan López, plus his father, Pedro López, were arrested by State Security.

The three are being interrogated at the Provincial Unit of Criminal Investigations and Operations (Upico) of the capital of Villa Clara, as confirmed to this newspaper by the activist Víctor Ruiz, who is outside the facilities in support of the detainees, along with Andy’s father. and Roxana, Nedel Garcia.

At first, they only detained Jonatan, but the rest, who accompanied him, were also called to the facilities. “The dad got upset, they put him inside. Pedro is being accused of public disorder and I’m saying this because the safest thing is that they come out here to catch me too,” Ruiz denounced in an audio message for 14ymedio.

Before being arrested, the Roxana Garcia explained that last Thursday the head of the Sector left a summons for her husband, who was absent at that time. Her father-in-law, Pedro, summoned the agents to return when Jonatan was home.

At first, they only detained Jonatan, but the rest, who accompanied him, were also called to the facilities.

“From that moment on, there was a high presence of State Security around our house, monitoring all the streets where we went,” said Roxana, who explained that it was like that in the past days.

On Tuesday morning, the young woman continued, the couple was intercepted by a political police motorcycle. The same State Security officer who arrested Saily Gonzalez At the beginning of this month, Roxana assured, he summoned Jonatan to accompany him and they both headed to Upico.

Later, Pedro López asked to enter, to protest the situation of his son. “From here outside we heard Pedro’s screams, saying that they had to free his son, that his son was innocent, that they were criminals and that down with the dictatorship,” Roxana explained.

“If we had committed a crime, I would keep my mouth shut and do it. The same goes for my brother; if my brother had committed a crime, I would keep my mouth shut and he has to do it, but that is not the case, because my brother He is innocent,” he added forcefully. “You are criminals, family breakers, you are disgusting.”

Andy García Lorenzo, 24, was sentenced to four years in prison in a trial held in Santa Clara on January 10, together with 15 other protesters who took to the streets on July 11. The Prosecutor’s Office originally requested seven years in prison for him for public disorder, contempt and attack.

However, after the appeal trial, on May 25, he was released to continue his sentence in a work camp.
