From Wednesday (1st) until noon this Friday (3rd), the Ministry of Defense registered around 7 thousand registrations in the female military enlistment voluntary. Those registered compete for one of the 1,465 vacancies available in Brasília (DF) and in 28 other municipalities in 13 states, plus the Federal District
The unprecedented female military enlistment continues until June 30th. Same period as mandatory male enlistment. The initiative is aimed at women who turn 18 in 2025, that is, born in 2007, based on decree 12,154, of August 27, 2024, signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defense states that it intends to progressively increase the number of women recruited for initial female military service, reaching 20% of vacancies, 1,100 in the Brazilian Army, 300 in the Air Force and 155 in the Navy.
Female military enlistment
Another requirement in addition to age for voluntary enlistment is that the young women reside in the municipality where the military organization exists.

Selection
In the process of analyzing applications, the three forces will consider the availability of vacancies, the aptitude of the candidate and the specificity required for incorporation.
Selection includes interview, health inspection (clinical and laboratory exams) and physical tests.
The entire recruitment process will be carried out in stages: enlistment, general selection, complementary selection, designation/distribution and incorporation.
Incorporation
The selected women will be incorporated in the first half of 2026 (from March 2nd to 6th) or in the second half of 2026 (from August 3rd to 7th).
The initial positions for occupation are those of soldier (Army and Air Force) or sailor-recruit, in the case of the Navy.
From the official act of incorporation, women’s initial military service will become mandatory. The incorporated military personnel will have the same rights and duties as men and will be subject to the penalties provided for in Brazilian legislation.
According to the Decree 12,154, of August 27, 2024military service will last 12 months, and can be extended for up to eight years.
Women volunteers will not have stability in military service. After being removed from active service, they will form part of the unpaid reserve of the Armed Forces.
Women in the Forces
After passing a public exam or as temporary military personnel, there are currently 37 thousand women in the Armed Forces, which corresponds to around 10% of all Brazilian military personnel.
According to the Ministry of Defense, in the three armed forces, women work mainly in the areas of health, teaching and logistics or have access to the combat area through specific public competitions, in educational establishments, such as the Naval College ( CN), from the Navy; the Army Cadet Preparatory School (EsPCEx); and the Air Cadet Preparatory School (EPCAR), of the Air Force.
