The free distribution of food modules based on donations from friendly nations continues throughout the country, and proof of this is that to date there have been 7,250,000 delivered to Cuban families, reported Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Minister of Internal Trade.
In statements to the Cuban News Agency, he stressed that most of the provinces and the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality are concluding the second delivery cycle these days, while Santiago de Cuba and Havana are now beginning the third.
He specified that depending on new arrivals, the distribution of the so-called basic combo – grains, sugar, rice and pasta – will continue to be completed by family units in those territories where it is still pending completion, as is the case of several Guantanamo municipalities.
Some provinces have already finished the second distribution of the modules and others are closing, while Santiago de Cuba began to execute the third round and in the last few hours in the wholesale trade units those intended for the capital began to be formed, where in addition Of these products, two cans of sardines will be included, pointed out Díaz Velázquez.
In Havana, it will start with Guanabacoa and Playa, that is, in two directions, he stressed.
The head of the Mincin finally clarified that the donated food that makes up the module is never received at the same time, since it comes from different regions or nations, so it cannot be expected that they are complete for distribution at the same time in all the territories, but gradually.
Since this process began in several territories on July 30, 2021, and spread throughout Cuba, there have been numerous expressions of gratitude from both the Cuban authorities and the population itself to the governments and solidarity organizations.
Such a gesture has been aimed at facing the impact of COVID-19 and the tightening of the US blockade, at a time of great shortages of food and other goods.
