Black artists from the dance segment have until the 9th to submit projects for the Sesc RJ Pulsar Public Notice – EntreDança 2023. The document can be found at page of Sesc on the internet. The budget allocated to productions totals R$ 690 thousand.
The Scenic Arts analyst at Sesc RJ, André Gracindo, informed the Brazil Agency that the regulation allows contributions from white artists, but they should not be in greater numbers or occupy prominent positions within artistic formations, such as direction, for example. “We have a proportionality of up to 60% of the participation of non-black artists within these proposals and these artists cannot assume leading roles”.

As explained by Gracindo, the idea of the public notice is to discover what, in fact, these black artists are creating, how they are protagonists in the scene, all over Brazil. “Positions such as direction, and others well outlined within the public notice, we ask that they be assumed only by black artists. But collaborative processes are welcome.”

The selected shows will compose the program of Sesc EntreDança 2023 – The Black Body, one of the biggest events of its kind in the country. This will be the sixth edition of the project. It is an exclusively dance program, thinking about the creation, the elaboration of these black dance artists, and the main focus is the creation and production of dance shows.
“We have a series of programs and activities that will be selected through the public notice”. These are unpublished shows, original creations or creations already made that can be registered and presented within the EntreDança program.
Gracindo highlighted that shows that have already been presented in previous editions of the project cannot register, because the intention is always to bring new experiences and new practices.
In addition to the presentations, the project has other actions that extend to the training of dancers and the general public, interested in the dance segment, with free workshops; debate tables with themes about dance or referring to blackness; critical writings; exchanges between artists from Rio de Janeiro and other states who participate in collaborative processes, exchanging experiences and cultural practices.
“The project opens up beyond the presentation. The call for proposals seeks proposals for all these areas. It seeks that the proponent, the artist or collective from all over Brazil who wants to sign up put their proposal for a show but also for a workshop, exchange, a table at which they will share their thoughts, a research for the public. This will all go through the selection process for the EntreDança public notice”.

Each production can receive from R$ 7.5 thousand to R$ 20 thousand. The submitted proposals will be submitted to evaluation committees made up of professionals from Sesc and from outside the entity, analyzing various criteria such as relevance, trajectory of the artists, qualification of the works and budgetary aspects.
The expectation is that by the second half of December, the result will be announced for the subsequent stages of the public notice, closing the contracts, in the administrative area. After the documentary analysis of those selected, the final result will be announced on January 13th. André Gracindo made it clear that there is no pre-determined number of projects to be selected.
The 2023 edition of Sesc EntreDança will take place throughout the month of May, at the Sesc Copacabana unit, where the opening of the event will take place, as well as the presentation of all works. From this pole, the shows will be able to circulate through the interior of the state, to other Sesc units. Proposals may include presentations in urban spaces, schools and concert halls by Sesc and partners in the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, Barra Mansa, Volta Redonda, Niterói, Nova Friburgo, Nova Iguaçu, Petrópolis and São Gonçalo.

The public notice for EntreDança – O corpo negro is an offshoot of a wide selection of artistic proposals with a view to composing the Sesc RJ program in 2023.
In the first half of the year, the Sesc RJ Pulsar Culture Notice was launched, focusing on the regular programming of the units. In this second semester, in addition to EntreDança and Baixada em Foco, which brings together artistic projects from the Baixada Fluminense, public notices are planned for other strategic cultural projects, such as Palavra Líquida, scheduled to open on the 7th, and Nova Música Convida.
The total contribution to artistic productions via public notice should reach R$ 30 million.
