This week, the 3rd Notice of Culture Sesc RJ Pulsar was launched, which is consolidated as one of the main tools to encourage culture in the state of Rio de Janeiro, according to the institution. In its third edition, the simplified selection process was also extended to audiovisual productions and presentations in public and school spaces. Applications are open to projects from all over the country.
The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Fecomércio RJ System, in the south zone of Rio, led by actress Cris Vianna, and was attended by the entire board and the Culture Management team of the entity, in addition to pocket show by the singer Julia Mestre (lead singer of the band Bala Escolha) and the guitarist Gabriel Quinto.
The president of Sesc RJ and Fecomércio RJ, Antonio Florencio de Queiroz Junior, highlighted the importance of culture for society and how much the sector affects everyone’s daily lives. According to him, the future of the country depends more and more on the role of culture among the population as a cry for freedom. In conversation with Brazil AgencyQueiroz highlighted that this new public notice is already a child with some training, and that his wishes are much more concrete.
“When we had the idea for the 1st edition, it was a time when culture and the entire universe that makes up culture was going through various difficulties, and we felt responsible for rescuing that”, he said. Queiroz highlighted that, in the beginning, the call for bids had a lower value, reaching R$ 30 million last year and repeating this year.
“The objective is to give voice to those who need it, to give voice to artists who need an opportunity to show their work. Brazil is rich in these formations, it is rich in its culture and our role is to give the population the opportunity to have access to this culture, then, we propose to visit public spaces precisely to liberate, to leave the walls of our world and go to a bigger and wider world, thereby providing the opportunity to countless people who would like to have access to theater plays , shows, in short, to the most diverse forms of cultural manifestations and sometimes does not have the opportunity. That’s our role,” he explained.
Reactivation of the sector
Created in 2021, the Edict of Culture Sesc RJ Pulsar was born with the aim of reactivating the cultural sector after the impact of covid-19. The 2022 edition received submissions from 3,330 projects from seven states: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco and Paraná.
According to Sesc, this edition is supported by three strategic pillars: connecting the artist with the stage, moving the artistic class with the public and boosting artistic work in all its spheres. The R$ 30 million will be distributed among attractions of different languages, such as theater, dance, circus, exhibition, audiovisual, literature, music, artistic interventions, the regular program of the Sesc RJ units and the strategic projects O Corpo Negro, Baixada em Focus, New Music Invites and Word Liquid, already developed by the institution.
This year’s novelties are the “Audiovisual Production” subcategory, which will allocate resources for directors to transform their scripts into productions and the possibility of submitting projects to be presented in public and school spaces, and not just in the Sesc RJ units, with the aim of to democratize and further diversify the institution’s cultural program.
