The service sector, which most employs in the economy and concentrates activities such as transportation, tourism, restaurants, beauty salon and information technology, grew 0.3% in May to June. This performance is the fifth month followed by expansion and makes the sector reach the largest level in the historical series, which began in January 2011.
The data are part of the monthly service survey, released on Thursday (14) by Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The previous record was October 2024 and May this year. You Five consecutive months of discharge gave the sector a 2%leap.
With the June result, the Sector closes the first semester with up 2.5%. In the accumulated 12 months, the expansion reaches 3%. Compared to June 2024, the month of 2025 rose 2.8%.
Highlight for Transport
Despite the record number, of the five major activities surveyed by IBGE, only one ─ Transportation services – presented a positive number in May to June.
Check out the performances:
– Services provided to families: -1.4%
– Information and communication services: -0.2%
– Professional, administrative and complementary services: -0.1%
– Transportation, auxiliary transport services and mail: +1.5%
– Other services: -1.3%
IBGE analyst Rodrigo Lobo details that of the five activities, the transport is the one that has the highest weight (36.4%) in the survey, which explains the fact that only a large positive sector can make the entire service sector growth in June.
Within the transport, the highlights were the passenger and cargo air, notably the road.
“It is the main modal by which goods are moved, such as the crop, but also industrial goods. It is an activity closely correlated with greater dynamism of the economy,” he says.
