The president of the board of directors of the Electoral Service (Servel), Andrés Tagle, assured that the terms of the constitutional itinerary should be extended so that the election of the directors would not be in April.
Tagle affirmed that “it is a thick agreement and perhaps hundreds of details are missing that must be legislated. The previous time, between the agreement and the constitutional reform there was a period of almost a month and a half. Now, if a month and a half is repeated, and over everything with the complication of the end of the year parties, can be slow”.
He assured that “in that case, it may not be possible to reach April due to deadlines, but I don’t see a major problem with the fact that in the calendar the election of councilors is in May and December, when we normally have elections, the presidential elections of second round, the plebiscite, so there is no major drama”.
Regarding the election of directors in April “we see it a bit difficult due to the times, because preparing the register requires time, with the audit and the right to claim, but we are going to speed up the updating of the registry in order to have it as up-to-date as possible “.
“Suppressing these processes can cost the delegitimization of the elections, because the registers do not have all the guarantees that today are in that period of 120 days (…) we are going to speed up the update of the registry to generate a register and try to have what updated as possible, but we need time,” he said.
