Around twenty films starring Marilyn Monroe (MM) and other materials inspired by the iconic American actress make up the summer program of the Cinemateca de Cuba.
The Charlot room of the Charles Chaplin Cinema will host the exhibition “We do not forget Marilyn,” which pays tribute to the actress sixty years after her death.
The selection is made up of titles filmed between 1949 and 1961, but it also includes an approach to the life and death of MM (1926-1962) in The Marilyn Monroe Mystery: the unreleased tapes (2022), from director Emma Cooper.
Among the films will be screened, among others, While the city sleeps (1950), Gentlemen prefer blondes (1953), how to fish a millionaire (1953), Lost souls (1954), The seventh year itch (1955) and The misfits (1961).
MM fought against typecasting roles and stereotypes in the film industry. He had a personal life marked by addictions, alcohol and psychological disorders.
Cuban actress Ana de Armas plays the role of MM in the film Blondebased on the best-selling novel by Joyce Carol Oates. The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will begin streaming on Netflix on September 28.
