Mexican Sergio Pérez won the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prixthis Sunday at the urban circuit of Jeddah, in a new Red Bull exhibition, since the Dutchman Max Verstappen impressed by coming second after having started from fifteenth position.
The Spanish Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) was third in the race but a penalty dropped him to fourth place, giving his place on the podium to British George Russell (Mercedes).
For ‘Checo’ Pérez (33 years old), who had started from the ‘pole position’This is his fifth victory in Formula 1, after triumphing at the Sakhir Grand Prix (Bahrain) in 2020 with Racing Point and, already as a Red Bull driver, in Azerbaijan in 2021 and in 2022 in Monaco and Singapore.
In the first race of 2023, Sergio Pérez had been second and Verstappen firstso now the order on the podium alternates between the two Red Bull drivers, the team that already dominated widely last year and that for now is proving unattainable for the rest.
The veteran Alonso, at 41, repeated third place in Yedá from the first race and confirmed the good feelings shown by Aston Martin in pre-season testing and at the season opener in Bahrain.
