Sergio Massa arrives in the United States in search of dollars and to ratify the agreement with the IMF

As confirmed weeks ago, Serge Massa He arrives this Monday in Washington, United States, where he will begin, this Tuesday, the work meetings that he has planned as part of his tour.

The Minister of Economy will meet with investors and representatives of international organizations. Also, Serge Massa He will meet with several officials from the Joe Biden administration.

However, the most awaited meeting is the one that Serge Massa will take place with Kristalina Georgieva, head of the IMF (International Monetary Fund). At this meeting, the minister will ratify the Government’s commitment to the agreement signed in March with the agency.

To do this, this Monday, Gabriel Rubistein, Deputy Minister of Economy, will hold the first technical meeting with the staff of the Fund and the rest of the economic team that accompanies Massa on his tour; this, in order to analyze the second revision of the program. The team is made up of Rubinstein, Leonardo Madcur, Raúl Rigo, Eduardo Setti, Lisandro Cleri and Marco Lavagna.

The economic team traveled from this Sunday.

Despite the attack suffered by Vice President Cristina Fernández last Thursday, the minister ratified his trip, which had been scheduled after his inauguration. This, since the president seeks to attract more investment to the country to achieve a greater accumulation of reserves in the Central Bank.

In this sense, within his agenda the economist plans to meet in Houston, with businessmen, especially from the automotive and hydrocarbon sectors, since the Government seeks to direct investment projects, with a focus on energy and Vaca Muerta.

This is Massa’s first international trip as minister.

Also, the politician will also meet with the head of the Inter-American Development Bank, Mauricio Claver-Caroneso that, soon, disbursements of more than US$600 million will be made for programs already approved.

When will the meeting with Kristalina Georgieva

Though the minister and his team will meet with the staff of the Fund, only until the end of the tour will the meeting with the head of the organization, that is, the assembly will take place next Monday, September 12.

There is expectation for the consolidation of the goals with the IMF.

Massa will explain to Georgieva the plan of economic measures that he decreed after his assumption, in order to guarantee financial balance, since the minister plans to meet the fiscal objective of 2.5% for this year.
