Sergia Galván recibe reconocimiento en Nueva York

Santo Domingo. – Activist Sergia Galván received recognition from the New York State Assembly for her commitment to the defense of human rights and the gender equity.

Galván obtained the award within the framework of the Dominican Reception of WE ARE 2024, held in the city of the United States.

The recognition highlighted Sergia Galván’s work as an educator in women’s studies, as well as her dedication to human rights, sexual and reproductive.

Throughout her career, the renowned activist has held fundamental positions, such as head of Public Policies in the Ministry of Women, and executive director of the Women and Health Collective, from where she has promoted initiatives in favor of gender equality.

“Sergia Galvan “He is an inspiration to all who fight for justice and equality,” said Assemblywoman Karines Reyes, representative of the 87th district of New York State, during the award ceremony.

He added that “his tireless activism and his vision of a more equitable society transcend borders and leave an indelible mark on the lives of many people.”

In addition to her career in women’s rights, Galván has been a passionate anti-racist activist, founding the Network of Afro-Latin American, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women, where she is currently part of the Advisory Council, amplifying the voices of women of African descent.

She has also held significant roles on the board of directors of the Latin American and Caribbean Women’s Health Network, continuing its mission to improve women’s health throughout the region.
