The National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) reported that, during 2025 and so far in 2026, 100 citizen reports related to the discovery of wildlife in various areas of the Peruvian coast, mainly sea lions, penguins and turtles, were attended to.
According to the report, the regions of Lima, Piura and Tumbes concentrate the largest number of registered alerts, which has motivated the strengthening of attention and guidance actions within the framework of the campaign “Let’s respect marine wildlife.”
Furthermore, the entity indicated that many of these species arrive on beaches near urban areas due to natural causessuch as the need for rest, reproductive processes, ocean currents that drag the young out of their colonies or the scarcity of food during events such as El Niño.
Likewise, the interaction with human activitieslike fishing, can also influence these cases.
The entity reminded the population that, when marine animals are found, they must avoid harassing them, handling them, feeding them or trying to return them to the sea. Given this, he urged people to immediately report the situation to the competent authorities.
On the other hand, fishermen reported the presence of whales in the province of Camana in the last few days.
