The Childhood and Adolescence Code prohibits the application of physical and psychological abuse as a form of discipline.
On Latacunga (Cotopaxi province), a professor at the Ramón Barba Naranjo School was separated from the educational establishment after a message was spread on social networks video in which he is seen cutting the hair of several of his students.
The Ministry of Education issued a statement detailing that the teacher was assigned to carry out administrative activities “while due process is carried out.”

The news was confirmed by Sybel Martínez, vice president of the Quito Council for the Protection of Rights, who considered that these events cannot happen again in the country.
He recalled what happened several years ago with the rector of the Colegio Mejía, in Quito, when he hit five students with a ruler.
“A large majority of people still confuse mistreatment with discipline”, rejected Martinez. The activist stressed that she discipline it is teaching to do well through example.
The Childhood and Adolescence Code establishes that it is prohibited to use the physical and psychological abuse as a form of discipline in schools.
He added that the fact that a child or young person decides to wear the hair long or short is in accordance with the free development of the personality.
According to Martínez, there is also no regulation or code of coexistence that empowers one to act as this Professor on Latacunga. (SC)
