The 3rd Trial Court of Mérida decreed a sentence consisting of 30 years in prison for Kasandra del Carmen Cortesero Galbán (23), for the death of her 2-month-old son Luis Alfonso Cortesano González, an event that occurred on January 14, 2025 in the town of Lagunillas, Sucre municipality in the state of Mérida, the Public Ministry reported.
In the afternoon of that day, the aggressor took the child to a health center in the town, where he was admitted without vital signs and traces of malnutrition and abuse, which is why the doctors on duty notified the Cicpc of the news.
After several tests and investigations, it was determined that the mother was not feeding or cleaning the baby, which caused septic shock. Under such circumstances, the woman was detained by Cicpc officials and placed under the command of the Public Ministry.
At the trial, representatives of the 14th Prosecutor’s Office of that jurisdiction ratified the accusation against Cortesero Galbán for commission by omission in the crime of intentional homicide qualified with treachery and for ignoble motives, which was accepted by the court.
