The Colombian geological service reported movements between 3.0 and 4.6 degrees in active seismic areas.
News Colombia.
Four tremors in less than 12 hours They have been reported by the Colombian Geological Service (SGC) in different regions of the country. Although the movements were of moderate intensity – with magnitudes between 3.0 and 4.6 – have generated concern between the population and force to strengthen prevention measures against possible events of greater magnitude.
The first earthquake was recorded in the Pacific Ocean, against the coast of Chocóon April 23 at 17:44, with a magnitude of 4.6 and superficial depth, 43 km southwest of El Litoral del San Juan. Hours later, at 21:52, a second event occurred in Under Baudó (Chocó) with a magnitude of 3.7also superficial, located 35 km from Pizarro.

Towards the center of the country, an earthquake of 3.3 degrees He felt in Ubaté (Cundinamarca) At 23:42 of the same day. This event had an unusually high depth: 137 kmwhich makes it a particular case in that region. Finally, in the early hours of April 24, a tremor of 3.0 degrees was recorded in Yolombó (Antioquia)25 km from Puerto Berrio.
So far, authorities do not report structural damage or affected people. However, they have insisted on the need to be prepared, especially in areas with high seismic activity. The SGC maintains constant surveillance about these events, which although they do not represent a major threat, do reflect the permanent tectonic activity of the country.
What to do in case of a tremor?
1. Before the earthquake:
Identify safe areas within your home, such as columns, structural doors or solid corners. Have an emergency kit with water, flashlight, radio, documents and kit.
2. During the earthquake:
Keep calm. Protect yourself in a safe zone and welcome windows, glass, objects that may fall and unstable structures. If you are in a building, do not use elevators. If you are on the street, get down posts, cables and facades.
3. After the earthquake:
Check possible damage to your home and public service cuts. Avoid turning fire until confirming that there are no gas leaks. Listen to the radio or follow official sources to receive instructions.
4. Recommendations of the SGC and the authorities:
- Do not spread rumors or false news.
- Participate in drills and emergency community plans.
- Report any structural damage to local authorities.
- Keep calm and cooperate with neighbors and rescue equipment in case of emergencies.
