Senegal won the first Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) football of its history by beating Egypt in the penalty shootout of the final (4-2 after a 0-0 draw), this Sunday in Yaoundé.
It was the third final that Senegal played in the CANafter which he had lost in 2002 and 2019. The shot that gave the title was scored by his star Sadio Mané, who had precisely missed a penalty in the 7th minute of the match.
Egypt, with its star Mohamed Salah, could not win an eighth title in the CAN but, with seven, he still holds the record for titles in this competition.
In the decisive round, Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mohamed Ahmed missed their shots for Egyptor. For Senegal, Bouna Sarr missed.
Senegalese take revenge from the lost session in the CAN final twenty years ago against Cameroon (3-2 after a 0-0 draw).
Aliou Cissé, Senegal coach, the thorn of that final was also removedsince as a player he missed the last shot in the final against the Cameroonians.
