Sendic paid a $720,000 fine imposed by the Court for the use of corporate cards

Sendic paid a $720,000 fine imposed by the Court for the use of corporate cards

Judge María Helena Mainard sentenced the former chief in 2021 for the crime of abuse of functions and embezzlement.

The former Vice President of the Republic Raúl Sendic paid in the last hours around $720,000, a fine of 500 Readjustable Units that had been imposed as a penalty by the Justice, according to reports MVD News and confirmed Montevideo Portal.

The value of the UR as of July 2022 was $1,446.76.

Decree No. 146/2022, dated September 1, 2022, states: “Attentive to the added documentation (pages 5165), consider the payment of the fine as proven, informing the Montevideo Customs Prosecutor’s Office and the Treasury for its purposes”.

Judge María Helena Mainard sentenced Sendic in 2021 for the crimes of abuse of functions and embezzlement, after the former vice president did not provide proof of purchases he made with Ancap corporate cards when he served as president of the public company (2010-2013) .

Mainard defined a sentence of 18 months in prison (which was defined without a prison sentence), four years of disqualification from holding public office and a fine of 500 UR, which the former chief now paid.

Now, from the Prosecutor’s Office, it must be determined if this cancellation of the debt imposed by the Justice is sufficient to extinguish the judicial case and consider the sentence as fulfilled. as far as he could tell Montevideo Portal, the position of the prosecutor of the case is that, if he paid, the cause is extinguished.
