Yesterday, the Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency (ABEN) sent from the city of El Alto to the Santa Cruz Center for Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy two state-of-the-art linear accelerators for the treatment of oncological diseases.
“Right now we are starting the transfer of two linear accelerators for the radiotherapy service at the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in Pampa de la Isla,” explained ABEN’s director of nuclear applications, Luis Fernando Cáceres, according to ABI.
According to the authority, these are two state-of-the-art linear accelerators that will allow the development of oncological disease treatment tasks at the second Center for Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy in Santa Cruz. This establishment will be inaugurated in the month of September this year.
“This equipment will arrive in approximately two days. Additionally, the brachytherapy modules, which is internal radiotherapy, are being transferred, with which we would be practically equipping everything that is the external and internal radiotherapy service in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, ”he indicated.
Cáceres recalled that the network of nuclear medicine and radiotherapy centers will have six linear accelerators. Of that amount, two are in the El Alto Nuclear Medicine Center, another two in Santa Cruz and another two will be in La Paz.
The centers of the three cities have state-of-the-art Argentine technology to strengthen the fight against cancer in Bolivia. The first establishment was inaugurated on March 6 of this year in El Alto and has already served more than 700 patients.
