Senators will travel to the US to denounce Cartes

The Chamber of Senators approved, with modifications, the draft resolution that makes up a delegation of Paraguayan senators to attend the Chamber of Senators of the United States of America and present to it the official report of the Bicameral Commission that investigates money laundering. money in Paraguay.

In this way, once the Chamber of Deputies defines its representatives before the CBI, the parliamentary body will have 60 days to issue a report on Horacio Cartes’ links in money laundering cases. Once completed, said report will be sent by Paraguayan senators to their North American counterparts.

The proposed modification was simply that the same legislators pay for the necessary tickets and travel expenses.

Salyn Buzarquis, projecting national senator, expressed that this project was approved in general and what corresponds is the study in particular. In the new text that was approached to the secretariat of the Senate, several points are complemented at the request of several senators.

“It is important to understand the spirit of the project. First of all, we must understand that money laundering as a transnational crime is the foundation of organized crime. This is not exclusively from Paraguay, but rather it is a global issue, there are no barriers”, he stated.

He stressed that the same route of cigarette smuggling is the same route of drug trafficking, car traffic and all the traffic that exists. In addition, he stressed that cigarette smuggling will not enter Brazil without the consent of the First Capital Command (PCC), a Brazilian criminal group.

He questioned that many people try to downplay this situation because Cartes generates sources of employment in the country.

“This harms the Paraguayan, the compatriot since it produces unfair competition,” he explained.

In addition to the US Senate, the report will be delivered to the Latin American Financial Action Task Force (Gafilat), the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Organization of American States.
