The legislators that make up the Constitution Commission of the Chamber of Senators unanimously approved to reject the request for impeachment that the councilors of the coalition against the mayor of Montevideo submitted to Parliament, Caroline Cosse.
As reported by MVD News and confirmed The Observerthe approved text consists of a single article that establishes: “In view of resolution No. 14,247 of the Montevideo Departmental Board, communicated through note No. 04278, dated October 26, 2022, the Chamber of Senators resolves to declare that no merit has been found to proceed with the dismissal of the Mayor of Montevideo from her postengineer Carolina Cosse, in accordance with the provisions of articles 93, 102, 103 and 296 of the Constitution of the Republic”.
At the end of October 2022, the Montevideo Departmental Board approved, only with the votes of the representatives of the coalition – opposition at the departmental level – to initiate a political trial against Cosse.
The opposition promoted this measure in the face of what it considered a lack of response from the mayor, who did not attend the last call to the room carried out by the councilors on the responses given by the administration to the requests for reports.
The opposition councilors at that time accused Cosse of “evade all control mechanisms” since he took office Municipality of Montevideo and for missing “the truth” when in a press conference he assured that 100% of the requests had been answered.
