With the withdrawal of Wilder Morais (PL-GO), Senator Rodrigo Cunha (União-AL) secured the vacancy for the 2nd vice-presidency, which he classified as a “consensus” candidacy. It is the role of the vice-presidents to substitute, in that order, the president in his/her absences or impediments, assuming the same attributions defined to the Presidency of the Senate, such as convening and presiding over the sessions of the House.

Secretaries

Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE), who held the position of 3rd secretary, takes over the 1st secretary, responsible for the administrative conduct of the Senate. reading in Plenary of official correspondence received by the Senate and of all documents that form part of the session’s file. In addition, he signs and receives correspondence from the Senate and is responsible for supervising the administrative activities of the House, among other duties.

The 2nd secretary was in charge of Senator Weverton (PDT-MA), who until then was in charge of the 4th secretary. It will be up to him to draw up the minutes of the secret sessions, read them and sign them after the first secretary. Chico Rodrigues (PSB-RR) and Styvenson Valentim (Podemos-RN) took the 3rd and 4th secretaries, respectively. They will be responsible for calling senators, in the cases provided for in the bylaws, counting votes and assisting the President of the House in the counting of elections.

Nominations for alternate secretaries were not voted on. According to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, he will schedule a session for this deliberation in due course. The members of the Bureau are part of the Executive Commission, which is in charge of the organization and functioning of the House and of the final wording of all the proposals that are approved by the senators.

Protest

During the session, the special attorney for women in the Senate, Leila Barros (PDT-DF) criticized the fact that, once again, there was not a woman on the Senate Board, even in front of a female group of 15 parliamentarians in the House.

“I come here to reiterate the absence of a female figure on the Federal Senate Board. I only ask for the reflection of all the senators, the leaders of the parties, because I know that these are the rites of the House, but we still have a great difficulty in understanding this House regarding the participation of women within the decision-making processes here. We are in the 21st century, and it is no longer possible that every time there is a process in this House, a senator has to stand up and say present. We exist!”, She stated supported by other senators.

In the face of criticism, Pacheco promised to give a woman the presidency of the Permanent Commission for the Defense of Democracy, which should be created in the House.
