At the initiative of Óscar “Cachito” Salomón, president of the National Congress, tomorrow, Wednesday, the legislators of the Upper House will hold a meeting with Sandra Quiñónez, attorney general of the State. The meeting will be confidential and will aim to analyze matters related to the security of prosecutors.
The meeting will also be used to discuss Quiñónez’s comments, who blamed the cutback and the lack of budgetary resources for the lack of security suffered by fiscal agents.
“The cuts and the lack of budgetary resources punish the victims and the citizens. Causes that do not have access to justice. Organized crime advances ”, were his exact words.
QUEREY
Jorge Querey, national senator for the Guasu Front, affirmed that the objective of the meeting will be to exchange opinions regarding the demands that the Public Ministry could have for the best performance of its functions.
“In the aspect of the security of the magistrates. The protocols that they should have, if the budget is executed, partially executed or not executed”, he stated.
The legislator stressed that last year’s budget was generally satisfied in its generalities. Although the Treasury made a cut, this was not related to the security area of the magistrates.
“The objective is to exchange knowledge to see how the security problem can be solved. Or if it is simply an institutional impossibility that has not been corrected until now, ”he commented.
When asked about the need for a budget increase, he stated that this was not required at any time. And, what’s more, last year the item that should have been allocated to security was not executed.
“On the other hand, the attorney general herself said that they would work on a special protocol for magistrates. From the budgetary executions of previous years and what they requested in the budget of expenses of the nation, they did not express those needs as peremptory and those budgets were not cut. Even last year they did not carry out the security item that should be used for tools and they did not carry it out, ”she questioned.
MASI
Desirée Masi, a national senator for the PDP, described Sandra Quiñónez’s expressions as “grim accusations”.
“To those who are using the crime of Marcelo Pecci I express my repudiation. Enough of being afraid. The truth is on our side. We have all voted for the budget of the Public Ministry. Not even in a tragic moment does this lady have the face to shut up, ”she questioned.
The legislator maintained that Congress never reduced what was requested, and even increased on several occasions, what was recommended by the Executive regarding the Public Ministry.
ARRUA
Georgia Arrúa, a national senator for the Patria Querida party (PPQ), explained for her part that their budget was never cut. And they were not denied support either.
“Nor were their wings cut off in relation to their investigative work. They were never capped. If the investigation is not fast, efficient or effective, it is a problem for the operators they have. They also have to do an internal analysis of what they do within the institution because I can tell you stories of trials that end in nothing. They too must make a mea culpa and make an effort to cleanse their ranks themselves,” he stated.
