The Chamber of Senators, approved with 28 votes in favor, the “Draft declaration by which the attacks and violence that are taking place in Ukraine by the Russian government are strongly condemned.”
Lilian Samaniego, national senator for the ANR (official) was the promoter of the initiative. The legislator condemned the attacks and violence affecting Ukraine by the Russian government.
“The only way to overcome this crisis in a lasting way is by resuming the negotiation processes in a constructive and flexible manner, respecting international mechanisms, adhering to international rights, including respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all States. ”, he expressed.
Then, Samaniego lamented the terrible situation that Ukraine is suffering today.
It is worth mentioning that the proposal in its article 3, proposes to express the solidarity and support of our country with the people and government of Ukraine and urge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to express itself through the Permanent Mission of Paraguay to the United Nations, on this serious humanitarian crisis and violation of human rights that has cost the lives of many citizens and the mass flight.
With 28 votes in favor, the proposal was approved and it is communicated to the appropriate parties.
RUSSIAN EMBASSY
Arnaldo Franco, a national senator for the ANR, affirms that the Upper House must have a political position regarding the war. Since it is a conflict that dismays everyone.
“We as a country have had a position against what Russia is doing. I think it is time for the Senate to have a position as well. That is why I request the postponement of the appointment of the new ambassador to Russia”, he stated.
Carlos Filizzola, senator for the Guasu Front, affirmed for his part that the Russian Foreign Ministry itself has already approved the appointment of a Paraguayan ambassador. Therefore, he was in favor of the designation being dealt with on the date.
“His designation is very important due to the years of relationship we have with Russia. There they are guaranteeing that the relationship will remain the same, ”she commented.
Javier Zacarías Irún, national senator for the ANR (official), was against the appointment of the ambassador. Fernando Silva Facetti, a senator for the PLRA, in the same vein, asked that the appointment only be dealt with when peace reigns in Ukraine again.
After the debate, the senators finally decided to elect the new diplomat on the date. Taking into account that Abdo Benítez, national president, must take the oath first and can do so when he deems it most appropriate.
After the nominal vote (28 votes in favour), the constitutional agreement was given for Víctor Alfredo Verdún Bitar, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Paraguay before the Government of the Russian Federation.
