Santo Domingo.- The Senate of the Republic approved this Friday in first and second reading the bill that declares the need for constitutional reform.
Legislators approve plan to modify Constitution
The Upper House also ordered that within fifteen days following the publication of this law, the National Review Assembly must meet to resolve the proposed modifications of various articles of the Constitution.
Politicians anchor themselves to networks and apply a continuous campaign
In addition, it must evaluate the addition, to the Maga Carta, of a general provision and seven transitional provisions.
During the Extraordinary Session this Friday, the dissident report of the deputies of the Dominican Liberation Party was read, since this political organization does not have representatives in the Senate.
The report was criticized by some legislators, such as the senator for the Hato Mayor province, of the Modern Revolutionary Party, Cristóbal Castillo.
Castillo recalled the times that the Dominican Liberation Party tried to modify the Magna Carta, to remain in power.
While the senator for La Vega Rogelio Genao, of the Social Christian Reformist Party, said that he feels proud to work on a constitutional reform that, for the first time, is submitted by a president of the Republic to put a lock on the Magna Carta and limit himself in the power, stripping himself of powers and disqualifying himself from running again.
