The senator of the Christian Democrats, Ximena Rinconvisited the region of La Araucanía during this day, where he held different meetings with local authorities to analyze measures against violence in the area.
At an impromptu press point, the parliamentarian referred to the expansion of two lawsuits under the State Security Law against the leader of the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM), Héctor Llaitul, by the Government of the President Gabriel Boric. “It cannot be said that an action of this nature persecutes ideas or thoughts. What Héctor Llaitul has done is an open threat. Taking responsibility for past acts of violence is something that should have made the government react and we went out to tell them publicly. It was not chasing thoughts, it was taking action in the face of a threat,” he said.

Along these lines, he added that “I believe that there are people who are dangerous for society and I believe that we cannot allow them to establish a position in public with their faces uncovered and not have consequences. I believe that this is not only worrying, but that in the end It allows criminal action without consequences to exist. Criminal action without consequence and I believe that this cannot be allowed”.
Government interventionism
It was also consulted by the investigation carried out by the Comptroller General of the Republic to the Government for a possible intervention in the exit plebiscite campaign in favor of the I approve option.
Given this, Rincón pointed out that “the Comptroller’s Office will have to determine whether or not there is campaign action on the part of the Government. What one sees from the outside seems to be that there is campaign action on the part of the President, and obviously I think it is important that the Government understand that there are other issues that concern citizens, the crime issue, the economic issue. We heard some experts who pointed out that they are going to have to postpone measures because the resources are not going to be enough”.
Exception status
The senator also addressed the new extension of the State of Constitutional Exception requested by the Executive for the region of La Araucanía and the provinces of Bio Bío.
“I have had the opportunity to talk with the governor early, and tomorrow I have to be in Congress voting and what the governor tells me is that it is necessary to maintain the State of Exception. Now, what we have always said, this is just a tool and the issue is much deeper. What he has pointed out to me is that it obviously helps to control the violence on the main routes but not on the secondary ones. We have to understand as a country that this is a serious issue that affects men and women of the territory and that actions must be taken, that it is essential that these actions be taken and that we are not left alone in this measure, that much more needs to be done,” he said.
He also criticized the constitutional text again, since the legislator indicated that the State of Constitutional Exception is not coming, so it would put the Government in check as of September 4 -in case the Approval wins-, since it will not be able to occupy this option.
Along these lines, he once again committed his vote to the Rejection option, since he believes that Chile needs a better Constitution, for which he will insist that the citizens once again choose the method to write a new constitutional text.
