The socialist senator Juan Luis Castro harshly criticized the conventionalists and some Communist Party spokesmen who questioned the agreement signed by the parties that make up the two government coalitions, a protocol that establishes a series of amendments to the constitutional text in the event that the Approval wins. in the exit plebiscite.
In an interview published on the Biobío radio website, Castro dismissed the criticism of “cooking” made by several former members of the Convention. “It is easy to talk about the four walls, but it is more difficult for former leftist constituents to criticize themselves, which they should have done, for having missed the great opportunity they had to have done things better. Because the plan has had to be amended, which is happening, which is due to the poor work of certain leftist constituents. Not all of them, but a part of them that simply ignored the citizen connection, did not consider other opinions”, declared the senator.
“The time for the constituent assembly is over. They had a mandate, it lasted a year, they did it as they did and now we are seeing the results of what they did. The constituent power is once again based in the National Congress with elected representatives equal to or with more votes than the constituents themselves,” he said later, noting that in the body responsible for drafting a proposed Constitution “there were degrees of sectarianism, there were degrees of maximalism that today are charging and gosh that are difficult. I don’t hear any self-criticism from them, because if there is a problem in the constituent assembly, or if there is a failure tomorrow, the responsibility lies with the constituent convention, not with the political parties. It is not from the government or from the opposition. And I wish they could understand that clearly,” he added.
Likewise, Castro took them against the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue, who argued that this agreement was the result of “a kitchen” in which “bad cooks” participated. “If this had been a dry Approval as the Communist Party says, we would not have been in this exercise of seeking amendments. Of course there were aspects of the text that were ambiguous, that were confusing, that were counterproductive or that gave rise to nuances, and that is why the President had to call, because this is somewhat widespread, the parties to make a proposal. This is not an issue, as the communists say, of just interpreting or specifying a semicolon, here there are substantive amendments”, he declared.
“The leader of the Communist Party (Guillermo Teillier) almost threw dirt at it minutes after the agreement itself, saying that compliance could not be guaranteed, and that weakens it,” he added, while responding to those who, from “the ranks themselves of the ruling party” come out to “dismiss, relativize, censor or interpret, it is obvious that they leave less room for the President to be able to lead the process, when there are degrees of ambiguity.
