Senator Provoste meets with the US Diversity Ambassador prior to the Indigenous Peoples Summit

the senator Yasna Provost (DC) and mayoress of La Pintana, Claudia Pizarro (DC), met this Saturday with the Ambassador for Diversity and Inclusion of the United States Department of State, gina Abercrombie Winstal. The appointment was made prior to the Summit of Original Peoples, which will take place in Washington, USA, between November 30 and December 1, 2022.

The trawun (discussion) was held with Mapuche leaders and artisans from La Pintana.

The legislator from Atacama indicated that “it has seemed very appropriate that, within the framework of the visit of the head of the diversity office of the United States Department of State, which is commemorating its first nations, we can have this meeting in La Pintana.

In the same way, Provoste explained that the US ambassador highlighted the role of indigenous peoples in the history of humanity and highlighted the projects for the development of the indigenous culture of the country and that of the United States.

On the occasion, Senator Provoste valued “the effort made by the Municipality of La Pintana together with the participation of different peoples, especially the Mapuche people, taking into account that 8 out of 10 indigenous people live in urban areas ”.

Also, the legislator DC emphasized that “our spirit of advancing in the recognition of our native peoples here in Chile remains as valid as ever.”
