The senator of the Christian Democracy, Yasna Provoste, criticized the call made by the right -and part of the DC that votes Rejection- to support the proposal that seeks a 4/7 quorum to reform the current Constitution, in case of that the alternative of not approving a New Magna Carta wins.
“Let’s be clear: the proposal of 4/7 of the right is a makeup operation to the Constitution of ’80 with a formula that they never used in the last 30 years, and under the supposed promise that if the rejection wins there will be everyone anyway another Constitution. I will not be part of that,” he said in a message posted on his official Twitter account.
In it, there is a video of a recent interview with the CNN Chile channel, where he says that “what this initiative seeks is to perform a cosmetic operation on the Constitution that has its origins in dictatorship. The 1990 Constitution is what reminds us of the most painful moment of a bloody dictatorship in our country. Let’s not get lost in that.”
That is why – Provoste adds – that she prefers “a new text”, the one that was born “from a citizen process, where already on October 25, 2020, Chileans and Chileans forcefully said that we wanted to have another Constitution but there are those who insist on whitening operations, make-up operations, I cannot be part of that”.
Days before, the same Provoste had pointed out that “there is no ‘Plan B’, what we have is a plebiscite that has two alternatives: approve the new Constitution or reject it and keep the 80.”
