Senator Pizarro and definitions in the CC: «The PS, the FA, the PC, all have something to say and to say to their conventionalists. They don't go it alone"

The debate that has taken place in the Political System Commission, more precisely regarding the future of the Senate, has deepened the mistrust between sectors of the former coalition that will become part of the future government and the political team of the elected President.

This is because they understand that the “unicameral” spirit that has occurred in the convention on the part of the FA and the PC, would have the consent of the future authorities, a determination of which they were not a part, since they make up one of the two political poles of the future ruling party.

Although the DC will not enter the government, it does share the view with its former coalition partners regarding bicameralism and the importance that they point out and highlight of the Senate itself, beyond the names that it may adopt.

In this sense, in an interview with Third Senator Jorge Pizarro did not hesitate to point to the parties with the greatest representation in the convention, and called for them to take charge of the course it is taking by indicating that “The Socialist Party, the Broad Front, the Communist Party, all they have something to say and to say to their conventionals. They don’t go it alone.”

To this he added that “more than the Senate, it is the political parties that have representation in the Convention, which have to be more coherent in the construction of the new political regime. The issue is not whether there is a Senate, if it is unicameral or bicameral, the issue is the political regime, and today what is being built is very contradictory. A presidential system is being considered with some modifications and this monstrosity that it would be a single chamber, in circumstances where the country’s tradition of more than two hundred years is with a bicameral Congress”.

Regarding the future of the draft that will be presented to the citizens so that they can decide whether to approve or reject it in a plebiscite with a mandatory vote, the former president of the Senate pointed out that “if the constitutional proposal is bad, obviously it will be rejected by many. sectors. If the proposal is good, it will be overwhelmingly approved.”

In the commission during the week the phrase “unicameral” was eliminated and it was agreed to give greater powers to those who were presented in the first instance as a territorial council, which would replace the Senate, but without legislative initiative and with attributions mainly aimed at the regions. The last of the agreements in the commission would point to the fact that instead of a council, it would become a territorial chamber, and to which several powers would be added, approaching those currently exercised by the also known as the upper house.
