“Colombia, today I take a step forward for our future!“Pizarro wrote in X, where he said that his aspiration is not a personal decision, but”A commitment“With Colombians to continue Gustavo Petro’s political project.
Pizarro, daughter of the murdered former presidential and excommanthand of the guerrillas of the M-19 Carlos Pizarro Leongómez, will formalize his launch on Monday in Bogotá with his eyes on the presidential elections of 2026. His slogan, ‘Pizarro yes’, evokes the ‘word that yes’ with which his father campaigned in 1990, after leaving the weapons, but was killed in a plane in full flight in April of that year, when he was heading to Barranquilla for a campaign act. In July, during a national convention held in Bogotá, the Historical Pact decided that it will choose its presidential candidate through a popular consultation in October.
At that meeting they announced some of the names that will appear on the ballot, such as the former health minister Carolina Corcho, Senator Gloria Flórez, the former Minister of Susana Muhamad, former Embajador Camilo Romero, the former mayor of Medellín Daniel Quintero and former senator Gustavo Bolívar.
Although his name did not initially appear in the list, Senator María José Pizarro will finally be part of that internal consultation, which raises the number of candidatures within the official bloc. The winner of that first consultation will face the candidates of the so -called ‘Frente Amplio’ in March 2026, which would be made up of other allied sectors of the ruling party. Recognized for his defense of the peace agreement, Pizarro was in charge of imposing the presidential band for Gustavo Petro in his investiture on August 7, 2022.
