Senator Marcos do Val (Somos) was taken today (4) by the Federal Police (PF) for the installation of an electronic anklet. The measure was ordered by Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF).

The minister justified the decision stating that the senator failed to comply with precautionary measures imposed above, such as the delivery of all his passports so that he could not leave the country.

Denied request
In mid -July, before leaving the country, the senator asked Alexandre de Moraes to have been authorized to travel, but the request was denied. It is unclear how the parliamentarian left the country even with a pending order of apprehension of his passport.
“The conduct of the investigated demonstrates an absolute affront to the determination of the judiciary, since Marcos Ribeiro do Val requested authorization to travel abroad, and the request was rejected, and clearly circumventing the precautionary measures imposed,” Moraes wrote in his decision.
Despite searching Val’s addresses in Brasilia and Vitória, Espírito Santo, last year, the Federal Police had not been able to comply with the order to seize all Val’s passports. The measure was determined by Moraes, and was then confirmed by the first class of the Federal Supreme Court.
In a statement, Val said that “he repudiates the narrative that there was a breach of precautionary measure imposed by the Federal Supreme Court.” The text adds that “at no time was the senator forbidden to be absent from the country, nor was there a risk of escape.”
Also in a statement, the senator’s office stated that Val “is not even a defendant or was convicted in any case.” In addition, he added that the measures imposed by the court would prevent the full exercise of the senator’s mandate.
