Republican Senator Marco Rubio spoke this Thursday about the police siege that the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo imposed against Monsignor Rolando Álvarez and asked the Vatican and countries of the world to raise their voices in the face of this “extremely difficult situation” that Nicaragua is facing. .
“I ask the Vatican to express itself openly, I ask the countries of the region to condemn it as well,” Rubio told Nicaraguan journalist Arnulfo Peralta, exiled in the United States and a reporter for the Telemundo 31 television network.
The US official assured that this type of situation has already been seen for decades in the Cuban and Venezuelan regimes, “but this, in the last five years, has become a huge tragedy (in Nicaragua),” he said.

Bishop Álvarez has been under siege for 8 days by the Police, who accuse him of trying to “organize violent groups”. This Thursday Álvarez reappeared at a morning mass and assured that his life and that of the other lay people who accompany him “are in the hands of the Lord.”
“We pray for that bishop who is doing his job as a bishop and as a member of the religious body of the country, and I think he teaches us the nature of this regime that exists in Nicaragua, there is no democracy in Nicaragua, there has not been for a long time,” Marco Rubio said.
The official lamented that the only thing that exists is a pro-Russian, pro-Iranian, pro-China and anti-American regime. “I have been warning about this for years and now we are seeing the reality,” he concluded.
