Santo Domingo, DR.- The senator of the Peravia province for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Julito Fulcar, proposed this Tuesday before the Senate of the Republic that it be recognized and declared “National Pride” to the sprinter Marileidy Paulino. She was a gold medal winner at the Paris Olympic Games in athletics.
The Peravian legislator described Paulino as “a star of the Dominican Republic who has raised the tricolor flag high, and who has spread and made known throughout the world the values of the Dominican Republic, where he was not known for the feat he had accomplished.”
Fulcar thanked other fellow senators who have also taken the initiative to recognize Paulino. At the same time, he invited them to join and sign the draft resolution Once this reaches the commission, this will be done so that it can be formally approved. “It must be signed by all the senators”.
“Marileidy has shown with her feat that when you want something, you can do it, setting a historic mark by breaking all records, and also being the first woman in the history of our country to win an Olympic medal,” said the senator from the south.
Marileidy Paulino is a Dominican athlete who has demonstrated discipline, talent and personal improvement. This with the obtaining of the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With this medal she raises the name of the Dominican Republic in the field of international sport.

Paulino won a gold medal by breaking the Olympic record with 48.17 seconds in the women’s 400-meter dash. She is the first Dominican woman to win a gold medal.
The Dominican sprinter became the fourth fastest woman in history in this discipline and broke the Olympic record, which had been held since July 29, 1996, in Atlanta, by the Frenchwoman Marie-Jose Perec.
