Senator for La Romana requests intervention from President Abinader in water crisis

Senador por La Romana solicita intervención del presidente Abinader en crisis de agua

Santo Domingo.-In view of the worsening crisis in the water supply affecting the province of La Romana, Senator Eduard Espiritusanto has made a strong call through a communication sent to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, to urgently intervene in this problem that seriously affects that province.

He said the situation has reached desperate levels, forcing families to rely on private water services, which represents an additional blow to the family economy that is reflected in an increase in the cost of living.

“Tank trucks have become a common sight on our streets, an unacceptable reality for a province that used to receive continuous and quality service in this area,” said the legislator.

He went on to say that “for three years, La Romana has been facing a water crisis that has revealed serious technical deficiencies in the management of the Water and Sewer Corporation (COAAROM), which has been functioning correctly since its foundation in 1988,” he said.

The legislator asserted that this has been compounded by an internal crisis and the dilemma that the Administrative Council of COAAROM has not reached a consensus to appoint its new director, and has made a series of contradictory decisions without due process, such as the recent arbitrary swearing-in of a director by only two mayors who are members of the council.
