Senator Iván Flores García called on the Government to take measures far beyond imposing criminal complaints or establishing states of constitutional exception that —according to the DC legislator— they are unable to find those responsible or reduce the frequency of these, after the double arson attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 17 in the Los Ríos Region.
As the parliamentarian commented: “Terrorist organizations no longer only act sporadically, but they are establishing themselves in a much larger territory to the south and their focus of attack is no longer only forestry companies, but now they are also attacking other rural economic activities on which we depend and live”.

For the rest, he pointed out that the State must go much further. “When one reviews the history of other countries, this is how the FARC began, this is how the guerrillas began in other Central American countries that I happened to know. The Government can not only intervene by deciding whether or not to apply the State of Exception, this is much more complex and profound. It is multi-causal and organized crime, drug trafficking, the terrorist organization must be separated from what the original peoples are.”
Senator Gatica (RN) had already raised the need to extend the state of exception, but it was ruled out by the Minister of the Interior at last Thursday’s coordination meeting, which led to various criticisms from the opposition, which were renewed after the events recorded in the last few hours in Lanco and Máfil.
